Akiaki is a comprehensive learning series designed to advance the tourism industry in Aotearoa. As part of this series, we were proud to support the delivery of the Cultural Heritage Course, or 'E Whano, e Whanake', to help businesses navigate and engage meaningfully with Māori culture.

Created with a focus on inclusivity and practicality, this course is divided into three key chapters: introducing Māori culture within tourism, exploring foundational Māori principles, and offering tools to apply these values in practice. With bite-sized modules, guided conversations, and real-world insights, E Whano, e Whanake uplifts cultural confidence and promotes a values-led approach to tourism across Aotearoa.

  • Our collaboration aimed to support Tourism Industry Aotearoa's efforts to equip tourism professionals with the knowledge to engage with and integrate Māori culture through their Akiaki programme.

  • In the early stages of the project, our verified translators worked on an appropriate name for the course, which guided the development of subsequent resources. Over several months, the course was structured into three chapters, and in collaboration with Tourism Industry Aotearoa and Grow Tourism, we developed course modules, case studies, review quizzes, and more. We then supported the delivery with filming and production, all aimed at uplifting cultural confidence and promoting inclusive, values-led tourism across Aotearoa.
